Free Eye Check Up Camp
The overall objective of the project is to reduce the burden of avoidable blindness among local villagers at domdoma village, Suri-II block, Birbhum district.
On 9 February 2021, The We Foundation, with generous donation from Panseeds Foundation, organized a free eye check-up camp at Domdoma Primary School of Domdoma village.
The Donor, Panseeds Foundation, wanted to support the small and marginalized farmers of Domdoma village under Domdoma Gram Panchayat, Suri-II Block of Birbhum district.
Two Optometrists and One Government deputed Ophthalmologist Surgeon from the Bolpur Subdivisional Hospital of Birbhum district examined around 250 patients where around 100 patients were referred for eye surgery to the Suri Hospital. The camp witnessed a seamless partnership between NGO, Private-CSR and Government.
We gave free medicines to the patients in the camp. Free spectacles shall also be given to the patients in March 2021.
The identified beneficiaries were given a token (with name and number) to keep a track of the services (from registration, screening to distribution of glasses and surgeries).
After registration, the social worker of The We Foundation had taken the patients to the waiting room and accompanied him/her to the screening room as well.
Post screening, the prescriptions for eyeglasses were collected by another social worker to ensure that all patients with refractive errors receive free eye glasses. We ensure proper healthcare for all our beneficiaries.
“I am a farmer. I know Panseeds. The doctors at the camp examined my eyes with care and recommended eye glasses for better vision. I am very grateful to Panseeds and The We Foundation for organizing this camp” – farmer (65), a beneficiary of Domdoma village.
